Rethink Waiting / ACTIWAIT

Rethink Waiting / ACTIWAIT is a conceptual idea of how to encourage people to walk while waiting at Central Station. It aims to illustrate how a space could be designed in order to incite more activity and it specifically highlights elements and features that could motivate people to take a walk instead of sitting while they wait for a train or bus. These elements were identified during observations, interviews, questionaries and other research methods.

This idea offers a more dynamic waiting time through the motion of walking. The purpose is to enhance peoples waiting time by questioning peoples traditional waiting habits and to add new experiences that could create unexpected values and bring new perspectives to the people that are waiting at Central Station.

ACTIWAIT is a conceptual module system that can be built into different types of elements that can help people get encouraged to walk. At Central Station the area is provided with a gate, stands, a balance and a wall but the system can also be built into stairs and benches.
